Password: secrets to a strong password

Passwords are Secure Combination of alphabets, number words or sentences use to protect our files, folders, emails, credit cards etc.

Common mistake computer and Internet Users make is using the same name and passwords for several, If not all their accounts on different websites.

Hackers can steal Passwords and user name and then try the combination on other popular websites like yahoo, Gmail, Google, facebook, pay pal etc. This is why most people have their accounts compromised.

So how can I have a strong and secured password?


In as much as we need to use complex passwords, we also need to be able to remember them.

Below is a list of hints on having a strong and secure password.

Bad passwords

1. Your name

2. Birthdays

3. Combination such as your birthday and your spouses’ months and days of your birthday anniversary days.

4. Combination of name of year of birth.


Recommended Passwords

1. Combination of capital letter, small letters, numbers and special characters.

E.g. Master&! 65

@46m! Total

2. Carnegie Mellon university according to CNN recommends using sentences as passwords.

E.g. I hate the new naira note!

The Secret to looking good is-money!!!.

3. Researches from Georgia institute of technology. US, advises that best solution is to have a 12 digit Character Password.


The researchers found it could take 17,134 years to crack such password using high processing power.
